MORAL COURAGE

Moral courage is the much-needed bodyguard of conscience and character. The temptations and pressures to sacrifice integrity are numerous and powerful. We should be able to overcome the temptations and resist the pressures by sheer self-interested logic. After all, without our integrity we will find our souls on the auction block over and over. Moral courage allows us to do the right thing even when it costs more than we want to pay and we need it to stop us at the very beginning of the slippery slope of moral compromise.

Character is the foundation stone upon which one must build to win respect. Just as no worthy building can be erected on a weak foundation, so no lasting reputation worthy of respect can be built on a weak character. Without character, all effort to attain dignity is superficial, and results are sure to be disappointing.

-- R. C. Samsel

Your happiness is not determined by what life brings to you, but by the attitude you bring to life; not what happens to you, but by the way you look at what happened.

The happiest people in the world are not the richest, best looking or most powerful; they are people who find value, meaning and purpose in selfless service and making a positive difference in the lives of others.
-Michael Josephson

When someone is nasty or treats you poorly don’t take it personally. It says nothing about you but a lot about them.
– Michael Josephson

“A man with outward courage dares to die; a man with inner courage dares to live.”

“Real courage is when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what.”

“It is curious that physical courage should be so common in the world and moral courage so rare.”

Death is something inevitable. When a man has done what he considers to be his duty to his people and his country, he can rest in peace. I believe I have made that effort and that is, therefore, why I will sleep for the eternity.

"Civilization begins where chaos and insecurity end. For when fear is overcome, curiosity and constructiveness are free, and Man passes by natural impulse towards the understanding and embellishment of life."
~ Will Durant

"The strength of a nation derives from the integrity of the home."
~ Confucius

You assist an evil system most effectively by obeying its orders and decrees. An evil system never deserves such allegiance. Allegiance to it means partaking of the evil. A good person will resist an evil system with his or her whole soul.
MK Gandhi

Seven Deadly Sins Wealth without work Pleasure without conscience Science without humanity Knowledge without character Politics without principle Commerce without morality Worship without sacrifice.

My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.
Maya Angelou

In a world filled with hate, we must still dare to hope. In a world filled with anger, we must still dare to comfort. In a world filled with despair, we must still dare to dream. And in a world filled with distrust, we must still dare to believe.

VALUES

Do more than belong: participate. Do more than care: help. Do more than believe: practice. Do more than be fair: be kind. Do more than forgive: forget. Do more than dream: work .
William Arthur Ward

“Tell me what you pay attention to and I will tell you who you are.”
― José Ortega y Gasset

“Your time is way too valuable to be wasting on people that can't accept who you are.”
― Turcois Ominek

“It's not hard to make decisions when you know what your values are.”
― Roy Disney

Possessions, outward success, publicity, luxury - to me these have always been contemptible. I believe that a simple and unassuming manner of life is best for everyone, best for both the body and the mind.”
― Albert Einstein

“Don't let your special character and values, the secret that you know and no one else does, the truth - don't let that get swallowed up by the great chewing complacency.”
― Aesop

“If you're honest, you sooner or later have to confront your values. Then you're forced to separate what is right from what is merely legal. This puts you metaphysically on the run. America is full of metaphysical outlaws.”
― Tom Robbins

Forgive yourself for the blindness that put you in the path of those who betrayed you. Sometimes a good heart doesn’t see the bad.

“Values aren't buses... They're not supposed to get you anywhere. They're supposed to define who you are.”
― Jennifer Crusie

“It is easier to tell a person what life is not, rather than to tell them what it is. A child understands weeds that grow from lack of attention, in a garden. However, it is hard to explain the wild flowers that one gardener calls weeds, and another considers beautiful ground cover.”
― Shannon L. Alder

“Find people who share your values, and you'll conquer the world together.”
― John Ratzenberger

We are all born as empty vessels which can be shaped by moral values.

LOOKING BACK QUOTES

What’s done is done and what’s gone is gone. One of the life’s most valuable lessons is learning how to let go and move on. Looking back at your good memories is fine but never let the past stop you from moving forward.

“Your life is written in indelible ink. There's no going back to erase the past, tweak your mistakes, or fill in missed opportunities. When the moment's over, your fate is sealed. But if you look closer, you notice the ink never really dries on any our experiences. They can change their meaning the longer you look at them.
Klexos

There are ways if thinking about the past that aren't just nostalgia or regret. A kind of questioning that enriches an experience after the fact. To dwell on the past is to allow fresh context to trickle in over the years, and fill out the picture; to keep the memory alive, and not just as a caricature of itself. So you can look fairly at a painful experience, and call it by its name.

Time is the most powerful force in the universe. It can turn a giant into someone utterly human, just trying to make their way through. Or tell you how you really felt about someone, even if you couldn't at the time. It can put your childhood dreams in context with adult burdens or turn a universal consensus into an embarrassing fad. It can expose cracks in a relationship that once seemed perfect. Or keep a friendship going by thoughts alone, even if you'll never see them again.

It can flip your greatest shame into the source of your greatest power, or turn a jolt of pride into something petty, done for the wrong reasons, or make what felt like the end of the world look like a natural part of life.
The past is still mostly a blank page, so we may be doomed to repeat it. But it's still worth looking into if it brings you closer to the truth.

" I never look back darling, it distracts the now."

Maybe it's not so bad to dwell in the past, and muddle in the memories, to stem the simplification of time, and put some craft back into it. Maybe we should think of memory itself as an art form, in which the real work begins as soon as the paint hits the canvas. And remember that a work of art is never finished, only abandoned.”
― The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows

"I am an extremely sincere individual. I am sincere, to a fault. One of the many things that I have come to realize, to learn, is that sincerity must be reserved and given only to those who deserve it.

And one must save one's emotions, channeling them only to the people who are worthy of it. One must not throw one's pearls to the pigs."
— C. JoyBell C.

“If I had done this, if I had said that, in the end you are always more tormented by what you didn't do than what you did, actions already performed can always be rationalized in time, the neglected deed might have changed the world.”
― Damon Galgut

" When looking back doesn't interest you, your doing something right."

“I hurt myself deeply, though at the time I had no idea how deeply. I should have learned many things from that experience, but when I look back on it, all I gained was one single, undeniable fact. That ultimately I am a person who can do evil. I never consciously tried to hurt anyone, yet good intentions notwithstanding, when necessity demanded, I could become completely self-centred, even cruel. I was the kind of person who could, using some plausible excuse, inflict on a person I cared for U a wound that would never heal.”
- Haruki Murakami

“But it is perhaps not such a good idea to look back — all the stories say so. Look what happened to Lot's wife. Best not to look back. Best to believe there will be happily ever afters all the way around — and so there may be; who is to say there will not be such endings?”
― Stephen King

“Forget the past, it's gone, but glance back occasionally to remind yourself where you came from and where you are going.”
― Chloe Thurlow

“You could climb to the top of the world and jump into the deepest of ravines, but if you don’t have someone to share it with you’ll always be looking back.”
― Saim Cheeda

“We look back on our life as a thing of broken pieces, because our mistakes and failures are always the first to strike us, and outweigh in our imagination what we have accomplished and attained.”
― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

“If you’re always looking back at what you’ve lost, you’ll never discover the treasure that lies just up ahead.”
― J.E.B. Spredemann

“Every moment is precious, even the ones behind me that I often reflect upon with a reserved smile. However…I seldom look back, only forward in anticipation of the next greater now.”
― Carl Henegan

" The only time you should look back is to see how far you've come."

" Leave the past where it belong. Don't look back when you know you shouldn't."

― Stephanie Perkins

“I always knew a good man should do no bad deeds, but it never occurred to me that a good man must do good deeds. He cannot just sit back and do nothing. He cannot just relax and let things happen around him. He must act or his faith is meaningless, mere words or thoughts.”
― Aleksandra Layland

"To manage our emotions is not to drug them or suppress them, but to understand them so that we can intelligently direct our emotional energies and intentions.... It's time for human beings to grow up emotionally, to mature into emotionally managed and responsible citizens. No magic pill will do it."

-Oprah-

Do not accept the roles that society foists on you. Re-create yourself by forging a new identity, one that commands attention and never bores the audience. Be the master of your own image rather than letting others define if for you. Incorporate dramatic devices into your public gestures and actions – your power will be enhanced and your character will seem larger than life.”
 ― Robert Greene

" When things go wrong, as it sometimes will. Don't ever think of giving up, cause life is not about things and going wrong, its about people we love. That is what makes life worth living "

Like they want you to be happy or whatever and that makes you automatically responsible for their happiness because they won't be happy unless you are ... I just don't want that responsibility.”
― Katja Millay, The Sea of Tranquility

LOVE QUOTES

" The real lover is the man who can thrill you by kissing your forehead or smiling into your eyes or just staring into space.”
― Marilyn Monroe

“People think a soul mate is your perfect fit, and that's what everyone wants. But a true soul mate is a mirror, the person who shows you everything that is holding you back, the person who brings you to your own attention so you can change your life.

A true soul mate is probably the most important person you'll ever meet, because they tear down your walls and smack you awake. But to live with a soul mate forever? Nah. Too painful. Soul mates, they come into your life just to reveal another layer of yourself to you, and then leave.

A soul mates purpose is to shake you up, tear apart your ego a little bit, show you your obstacles and addictions, break your heart open so new light can get in, make you so desperate and out of control that you have to transform your life, then introduce you to your spiritual master...”
― Elizabeth Gilbert, Eat, Pray, Love

“Letting go doesn't mean that you don't care about someone anymore. It's just realizing that the only person you really have control over is yourself.”

You think because he doesn't love you that you are worthless. You think that because he doesn't want you anymore that he is right -- that his judgement and opinion of you are correct. If he throws you out, then you are garbage. You think he belongs to you because you want to belong to him. Don't. It's a bad word, 'belong.' Especially when you put it with somebody you love. Love shouldn't be like that. Did you ever see the way the clouds love a mountain? They circle all around it; sometimes you can't even see the mountain for the clouds. But you know what? You go up top and what do you see? His head. The clouds never cover the head. His head pokes through, because the clouds let him; they don't wrap him up. They let him keep his head up high, free, with nothing to hide him or bind him.

You can't own a human being. You can't lose what you don't own. Suppose you did own him. Could you really love somebody who was absolutely nobody without you? You really want somebody like that? Somebody who falls apart when you walk out the door? You don't, do you? And neither does he. You're turning over your whole life to him. Your whole life, girl. And if it means so little to you that you can just give it away, hand it to him, then why should it mean any more to him? He can't value you more than you value yourself.”
― Toni Morrison

“We are made by love, we are made of love, and we are made for love.”

“The bond forged between us was not one that could be broken by absence, distance, or time. And no matter how much more special or beautiful or brilliant or perfect than me he might be, he was as irreversibly altered as I was. As I would always belong to him, so would he always be mine.”
Stephenie Meyer

INSPIRATIONAL QUOTES

15 Things Money Can't Buy

Time. Happiness. Inner Peace. Integrity. Love. Character. Manners. Health. Respect. Morals. Trust. Patience. Class. Common sense. Dignity.”
― Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart

“You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go...”

“This life is what you make it. No matter what, you're going to mess up sometimes, it's a universal truth. But the good part is you get to decide how you're going to mess it up. Girls will be your friends - they'll act like it anyway. But just remember, some come, some go. The ones that stay with you through everything - they're your true best friends. Don't let go of them. Also remember, sisters make the best friends in the world. As for lovers, well, they'll come and go too. And baby, I hate to say it, most of them - actually pretty much all of them are going to break your heart, but you can't give up because if you give up, you'll never find your soulmate. You'll never find that half who makes you whole and that goes for everything. Just because you fail once, doesn't mean you're gonna fail at everything. Keep trying, hold on, and always, always, always believe in yourself, because if you don't, then who will, sweetie? So keep your head high, keep your chin up, and most importantly, keep smiling, because life's a beautiful thing and there's so much to smile about.”

“You can't live your life for other people. You've got to do what's right for you, even if it hurts some people you love.”
― Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook

“The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.”
― Randy Pausch, The Last Lecture

“When things break, it's not the actual breaking that prevents them from getting back together again. It's because a little piece gets lost - the two remaining ends couldn't fit together even if they wanted to. The whole shape has changed.”
― John Green, Will Grayson, Will Grayson

“Listen with curiosity. Speak with honesty. Act with integrity. The greatest problem with communication is we don’t listen to understand. We listen to reply. When we listen with curiosity, we don’t listen with the intent to reply. We listen for what’s behind the words.”

“A true professional not only follows but loves the processes, policies and principles set by his profession.”
― Amit Kalantri, Wealth of Words

GOD AND RELIGION QUOTES

"I like the silent church before the service begins, better than any preaching."
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

“God will not look you over for medals, degrees or diplomas but for scars.”
― Elbert Hubbard

Believe there is a great power silently working all things for good, behave yourself and never mind the rest.

“Prayer is not asking. It is a longing of the soul. It is daily admission of one's weakness. It is better in prayer to have a heart without words than words without a heart.”
― Mahatma Gandhi

― C.S. Lewis

“Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.”
― Corrie ten Boom

“God has no religion.”
― Mahatma Gandhi

“I have faith that God will show you the answer. But you have to understand that sometimes it takes a while to be able to recognize what God wants you to do. That's how it often is. God's voice is usually nothing more than a whisper, and you have to listen very carefully to hear it. But other times, in those rarest of moments, the answer is obvious and rings as loud as a church bell.”
― Nicholas Sparks, The Last Song

“God does not play dice with the universe; He plays an ineffable game of His own devising, which might be compared, from the perspective of any of the other players [i.e. everybody], to being involved in an obscure and complex variant of poker in a pitch-dark room, with blank cards, for infinite stakes, with a Dealer who won't tell you the rules, and who smiles all the time.”
― Terry Pratchett

“When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, 'I used everything you gave me.”
― Erma Bombeck

“Throughout life people will make you mad, disrespect you and treat you badly. Let God deal with the things they do, cause hate in your heart will consume you too.”
― Will Smith

“Because God is never cruel, there is a reason for all things. We must know the pain of loss; because if we never knew it, we would have no compassion for others, and we would become monsters of self-regard, creatures of unalloyed self-interest. The terrible pain of loss teaches humility to our prideful kind, has the power to soften uncaring hearts, to make a better person of a good one.”
― Dean Koontz, The Darkest Evening of the Year

“One of the main reasons that we lose our enthusiasm in life is because we become ungrateful..we let what was once a miracle become common to us. We get so accustomed to his goodness it becomes a routine..”

― Stuart Chase

"Faith is a passionate intuition."
~ William Wordsworth

LAWYER'S QUOTES

If the I.Q doesn't fit, you must acquit.

There is a vague popular belief that lawyers are necessarily dishonest. I say vague, because when we consider to what extent confidence and honors are reposed in and conferred upon lawyers by the people, it appears improbable that their impression of dishonesty is very distinct and vivid. Yet the impression is common, almost universal. Let no young man choosing the law for a calling for a moment yield to the popular belief. Resolve to be honest at all events; and if in your own judgment you cannot be an honest lawyer, resolve to be honest without being a lawyer. Choose some other occupation, rather than one in the choosing of which you do, in advance, consent to be a knave.
ABRAHAM LINCOLN, memorandum for law lecture, 1850

Good lawyers know the law. Great lawyers know the judge.
ANONYMOUS

Lawyers are the only persons in whom ignorance of the law is not punished.
JEREMY BENTHAM

Lawyers have a way of seeing that sets them apart from the rest of us. In some way this special vision makes them invaluable, and in other ways, repulsive. Lawyers are much more focused on rational, logical, and objective criteria to the exclusion of the emotional, subjective, and sometimes irrational responses to the world. Moreover, lawyers like to show no emotion, and possess a particular disdain for the emotions that are found in others, which has the quality of making them seem inhuman.

Lawyers are merchants of misery.

Law is an imperfect profession in which success can rarely be achieved without some sacrifice of principle. Thus all practicing lawyers -- and most others in the profession -- will necessarily be imperfect, especially in the eyes of young idealists. There is no perfect justice, just as there is no absolute in ethics. But there is perfect injustice, and we know it when we see it.
ALAN DERSHOWITZ

The only secret that the lawyer really possesses about the law is that no one can ever be certain of what the law is.... The lawyer is accustomed to the ways of bending and changing rules to suit his (or his client's) purposes, to dance in the shadows of the law's ambiguities. Rules hold no particular terror for the lawyer, just as the sight of blood holds no terror for the surgeon. Because he operates a system of rules, the lawyer becomes indifferent to them in the way that a doctor becomes indifferent to the humanity of the body that is lying on the operating table.

Loopholes, technicalities, and procedural irregularities make us think that lawyers are more interested in paper, forms, and procedures than they are in the everyday struggles of human beings. We want counselors, not bureaucrats; we want lawyers who possess legal knowledge but who are not mere legal machines. Clients come to lawyers because they are regarded--or they regard themselves--as problem solvers. But it so often feels as if the problems remain unattended to, or worse, that the lawyer's intervention ends up creating more problems--not putting out smoke, but instead kindling the flames, or starting new fires altogether.
THANE ROSENBAUM

Lawyers are men whom we hire to protect us from lawyers.
ELBERT HUBBARD

I don't know who the great lawyers are, and I presume you can't get to them. I know of no case where it can be said for certain that they took part. They defend some people, but you can't get them to do that through your own efforts, they only defend the ones they want to defend. But I assume a case they take on must have progressed beyond the lower court. It's better not to think of them at all, otherwise you'll find the consultations with the other lawyers, their advice and their assistance, extremely disgusting and useless.

RANDOM QUOTES

Many people can say anything about you, judge you, curse you but never ever forget who you really are because what you do depends on who you are.

Life’s rewards seldom exceed one’s personal development. That is, every person is the cause of either his success or failure.

A man can get discouraged many times but he is not a failure until he begins to blame somebody else and stops trying.
John Burroughs

In business, career or life in general, your success or failure depends more on what you do to yourself than what the world does to you.

The problem is not the resources. The problem is resourcefulness. Don't make a big deal out of the things you don't have because you don't have them.

“True happiness can only be found when you stop worrying about yourself and try to look out for those around you.

Helping people can give your life meaning and joy. Don't expect anything in return spread happiness and get peace, there is nothing more valuable than peace..”

If you have a question, don't look for the answer. Look for the reason because when you find the reason, you automatically find the answer.

The primary beneficiary of everything that you do is you. Your work is nothing but a reflection of who you are and manifestation of what you have become.

When caught between choosing to be happy or to be kind, be kind. Happy people are not always kind but kind people are always happy.

“A life lived for others, is the only life worth living.”
Albert Einstein

If you want to achieve something, stand up, leave the crowd, pay the price, and get it. Success comes to those take action.

In life, what you achieve won't matter as much as how many lives you've touched. Achievement is only a prelude to fulfillment.

Acts of kindness can evoke this moral elevation, never mind being the actual recipient of these acts. And people who have moral elevation are more likely to perform good deeds themselves. This is because if we feel we are 'good', we do 'good' things in order to reinforce this view of our self.

When caught between choosing to have hope or faith, choose faith. Hope waits for a defining moment to come when faith has already defined it.

"Maturity doesn't mean AGE. It means SENSITIVITY, MANNERS and HOW YOU REACT.

“There comes a time in your life when you can no longer put off choosing. You have to choose one path or the other. You can live safe and be protected by people just like you, or you can stand up and be a leader for what is right. Always, remember this: People never remember the crowd; they remember the one person that had the courage to say and do what no one would do.”
― Shannon L. Alder

" The happiest in the world are those who have life's simple pleasures.... They do not envy, they are contented... They do not ask, they give... Money is not their everything, its their friends, family and God. Being happy is not about getting all you want in life... Its about learning to be contented, learning how to give and appreciate what you have ".

“Warriors are not born and they are not made…Warriors create themselves through trial and error, pain and suffering, and their ability to conquer their own faults.”

Wounded Healers. They are not born and they are not made They create themselves through conquering adversity, trial and error and extreme pain and suffering.

They conquer fear and find a way to speak their truth even when they are afraid. In doing so they shine light for others who are lost and feeling alone, and in ... trial and error and extreme pain and suffering.

A purpose greater than they ever could imagine.
